Cabinet of Curiosity

Cabinet of Curiosity Black foam board, pins, air dry clay, ink 16x14x8 I drew influence for this project partly from the book we read for this semester, but I also wanted to showcase what something might have looked like if it was displayed like what I read about or if I actually had one of these artifacts. I wanted the cabinet itself to look like it was meant to hold these objects. I also wanted it to look a bit odd with the pins still showing as well as the motifs not precisely matching. This holds value as I pulled a lot from the reading about what value people assign particular objects and what things we as humans may want to collect or discard. The two objects were pulled from a few words in my reading. The first one is an old oven imagined to be used during the time when people did know how to grow corn. Instead, in this universe, they put some substance into this oven and had corn after a set amount of time. The second object is a replica of some sort of energy conducted relic

Memento

Family Wood, ink, chain 3x2x2 This sculpture represents the different feelings of my family. There are a lot of memories with highs and lows that I experienced with each member of my family. Highs like my 16th birthday party are depicted in the smooth feeling of the entire sculpture. It also shows up in the rounded edges and even more in the contrast between a larger, rounder end and a smaller, more pointy end. The pointed end is to show the lows that I had, like fights and my parent's divorce. This contrast is also represented by the color contrast, a darker color on the rounded side and the wood's natural color on the pointed side. The ups and downs will always be around. I wanted the lines in the wood to show up as much as possible to show the creativity my family embodies but also the mess and disorder the four of us all harbor. Figurative Sculptures

Takes on ED Air-dry clay, wood, ink, colored paint, fabric, wire, sharpie Left Sculpture 11x5x5 Right Sculpture 8.5x5x5 These Sculptures depict an anti stereotype look at eating disorders. I wanted to touch on this complex subject to show that not everyone that has said eating disorder looks the same. It is widespread for someone to struggle with an issue regarding their relationship with food, and they should all be recognized. It has been an ongoing problem for doctors and professionals to misdiagnose or ignore certain patients that don't fit the look of their claimed eating disorder. The sculpture on the left is a heavier-set person depicting anorexia, as shown by her stature and the measurement band around her base. The sculpture on the right depicts someone that struggles with binge disorder that looks very small. These two people are made to look very vague to show how equal they are in their internal struggle and paint them as the same in this sense, not one higher than
